Olympus-C8080

I’ve always tried to avoid fetishising camera technology, but when attempting this kind of shot, you definitely need the fine control an SLR gives you. I took 92 shots and maybe 10 were focussed properly, and of those, three were sort of tolerable. This, believe it or not, was the best shot. I just ended up hitting the button while dripping milk into the bowl, with fixed focus and shutter speed, and hoping for the best.

The Olympus is a fine camera, but it has a few annoying quirks. When you’re in manual focus mode, why it needs to say “MF” in red, preventing you from adjusting the manual focus until you reselect manual focus, when changing between Programme and Shutter Priority I don’t know. It’s like some tedious bit of nagging it does to remind you that yes, you’re still in manual focus. You want to say, “Yes! I know! Now shut up!”

Inspired by this far, far, far better shot.
