More panoramic stitching fun. A defunct drinking fountain in the centre of Brighton, apparently presented to the town by Frederick Chatfield Esq. in 1871. You can see what the town thinks of it. It’s grudgingly still on display (“Yes, yes, we love it! Thanks! Yes. Ahem”) but doesn’t work anymore and has been decorated with a bicycle inner tyre for several years now.
In the background is the crumbling, poorly-maintained St Peter’s Church. I once heard that it was a practice run by Charles Barry for the Palace of Westminster. If so, it’s one of those practice pieces that shouldn’t have made it further than the waste basket.
